What do you have with them? Take them out into a qt tank so they can heal.

well, WCs would be great, as many and as often as possible.......

Well it's either they are picking on each other, somehow the BP is biting them, or they have fin rot/some type of disease. Just wondering why you don't have a qt tank and want more fish? A nice bucket/tub makes a good qt tank also.

i doubt they'd pick on each other. I have 4 males and 6 females in a community tank, and they're very peaceful towards each other with no signs that they've nipped at each other. I'd suspect another species of fish, whichever you have in the 55.

Don't know if they'd suddenly start picking on each other, but I picked up 2 male cherry barbs then spent a couple weeks looking for a LFS that had some females got 3 of them, the 2 males went after them chewed them up 1 died moved the other 2 to a different tank.

i have 3 quarentines up. 1 has a gold ram another has a gold ram(used to have cutteri fry but they all died) and one with an endler, 2 killifish fry, and cherry shrimp

update
the cherry barbs fin is growing back all on its own. :) hopefully i can get them 10 new friends soon to spread out the aggression even more.
