Hi Friends !

I just found that one of my Rope Fish has a Pectoral Fin missing ! Will it grow back ? Will the fish suffer because of this or will it die ?

Kindly advice as I'm really worried...
Thanks !
Kush

my flame tetra had her anal fin almost completely eaten by others but after a week or so it grew right back. she is good as new now and swimming with the rest of the family.

hopefully your rope fish recovers soon too.

Depends. Feed it well and do lots of water changes. It may grow back and it may not.

Will it affect the fish? Yes, but it will adapt.

My 2 yo BGK was missing most of his pectoral fin when I brought him home; even with lots of water changes and great food, it never grew back; it may depend on how much has been removed. However, he has adapted very well and swims as if it were there. He's happy too--he loves to spin in circles in the movement of a ferris wheel--quite a sight!!!

The Smallest of my Female Bettas gets picked on and she has been missing a good portion of her anal fin for quite a few months now, it grew back as much as its going to, but its defiantly not how it used to be, but she seems and swims perfectly fine.

Depends --

A high protien diet and maintaining prestine water (3-4 PWCs a week or even daily) will go a long ways towards helping the fish not only recover, but prevent any secondary infections, which is the main concern ATM.

The second conern would be, what caused the fin loss? ...and to remove/prevent this from occuring.

Also, if the fin damage goes beyond the fin-tissue and has affected/damaged the boney structure within the fin, then the odds are no, it will not grow back.

Lastly, there are Meds available to help treat and regrow soft tissue damage, but I tend to think clean water is just as effective IMO.

Do you know the cause?
