If I increase salinity from freshwater to brackish will the tank cycle agian. I went from freshwater to brackish and everything has been good so far but I was wondering if I can expect to see amonia spike. My brackish is at 1.010 currently this is up from freshwater one week ago. I am planning on going to 1.015 to 1.020. the tank has 2 GSP and a white cheek moray eel in it and I just want to know if I will need to watch it close for re-cycling to occur. at what rate should I increase salinity, is there a general rule? thanks.

I would definitely watch it as it will probably have to recycle since most freshwater bacteria is not salt tolerant. It is advised not to go more than .002 per day of an increase or decrease in salt. Anyway, hope this helps and good luck.

.002/day will kill off the FW bacteria faster than the SW bacteria can develop. I recommend .002/week instead.
