I have a 3.5" Black Shark, and a bunch of Giant Danios in a 55G together. A friend of mine is offering me his little Polipterus (about 4"), and would like some opinions on weather this would work or not.
The tank size will be upgraded eventually.
Thanks....

If it were me I'd trade the black shark for the Polypterus. My only experience mixing black sharks with Polypterus sp. was not good. I lost 2 Polypterus delhezis, each only survived for about 2 days. I started blaming water chemistry until I watched the black shark "suck off" the protective slime of the second one and it died a few hours later. Got rid of the black shark and never lost another Polypterus since. You may have different results, but I can only speak from my experience.

Thanks for the reply FishBait.
I can't get rid of my black shark, cool fish. I actually bought it as an albino, but it is not. It is white for the most part, with black peppering on the body, black edged fins, and normal, non-red eyes. Don't really know what it is. Was almost thinking its a Harliquin Shark. He is growing rather slow, but eats like a pig.
I guess i'll stay away from the Polypterus. Sounded like a good idea. Also been thinking about a Pink Tail Chalious(?).

Black sharks are pretty cool fish. The only problem I have with them is that they get way too big, about 20". The only way of keeping the two species in the same tank would be by using a divider. I think a lot of people don't like the idea of that though. The choice is yours...
