Worst Tankbusters at a Local Chain!!!

if you guyes are really that worried about the poor info given in the stores, then why dont you just get a summer job in one for a few weeks, it would be interesting to see how stupid some of the customers are.
yes people working at places like walmart and petco dont know what they're doing (i hope that betta guy from petco got fired) but the bigger problem is the public knowledge of fish, the people working at the stores know that the people are stupid and will buy the fish without question, or with a little push in the wrong direction
the cutout idea is a cool one, however ive seen some bad info, even on the stores that have info on how big the fish get. at one petco the sign on the tank that has pictus cats in them claims that they only get 6 inches long. at the same store i have asked to buy a cory, and the guy there netted a synendontis and sold it to me for 3 bucks! this was when i just started and i didn't really pay attention to the fish, i realized it wasn't a cory but didn't put much thought onto what this might mean... I was REALLY suprised when the fish started growing...

I think Wal-mart sells fish just so they can sell the dry goods for aquariums. From what I've heard, the profit isn't in the livestock, it's in the dry goods. Most of the information they give you isn't entirely accurate and some people are just plain clueless. I deal with the public every day in my job and it never ceases to amaze me how dumb some people can be.

what I've found is that if a chain store gives you bad info they're most likely misinformed. I've worked at Petsmart for a while now and was at one point very misinformed, as are many people who work in that department. Fortunately, my store has a very knowledgeable cast from top to bottom. We would Never sell somebody fish "just to make a buck." We try to keep the customer as informed as possible.

Unfortunatlly, that is not always the case. I was friends with a guy who works for petsmart or petco.. i forget which one... and he often admits to giving bad advice, dispite knowing the facts. Though I have yelled at him b4, he doesn't care. He used to be helpful until, and I quote "People don't even research anymore, so I just try to get out of the conversation right away. I have to tell them what the want to hear for them to move on." That sux but even his boss has had complaints about him and the boss does not care.
