Would a pair of kissing gourami's be compatible with these fish?

I am planning on upgrading my tank and am playing around with what to add.


If I have a tank with 5 balloon mollys, 4 corys, and 5 neon tetra, could I get a pair of kissing gouramis?

I know they are SEMI agressive, but I know of a lot of people keeping them with the above type fish...

I suspect when your kissers got bigger all of your small fish would disappear. This is how I "inherited" the kisser I had because he was eating the original owner's community fish.

As I SAID - I am playing with numbers. If I decided ahead of time what I were going to get - I would get the appropriate size tank - AHEAD of time.

Ah okay. Thanks. I had heard you could keep them all together, but then I started researching it and they seemed very incompatible to me.

I am possibly considering a powder blue dwarf guorami (I've heard good things) - IF I add anything at all. When I do upgrade I would like to add a few new fish but we'll see. Gotta find the tank first.

he wasnt being rude...those are simple facts and questions that we need to know that you understand.

a single kissing gourami need at least a 75 gallon tank to itself. these fish will easily reach 12 inches long, and most will get upwards of 16 inches.

they are also much too aggressive towards other gouramis and their own species to keep in a pair.

He may not have been trying to be rude, but it came off that way. I'm not the kind of person who's going to buy a goldfish and stick it in a bowl or something.

I just am asking questions and it is frankly a little frustrating to be met with (in my opinion) rude responses, when you could frankly phrase things much nicer and still get the point across.

It's just tough because as a newer fish hobbyist, I do ask a lot of questions - and sometimes people act like you are a complete moron just for asking. But if I don't ask on here and other forums and look in books, I won't know. Like I said, other people I know kept them in tanks and the people at my fish store are like "oh yeah yeah they'd be fine together". lol. I'm just trying to research and I feel like every couple questions someone is chewing me out.


I apologize if I was being oversensitive (I probably was), but it gets frustrating after a while.

I think a dwarf gourami would be fine. Most dwarf gourami do very well in community tanks. I would not put two males together without several females present. Be careful when purchasing dwarf gourami of any kind. They have a tendency toward health issues. Make sure you get the fish from a reputable source, a little extra cash down is worth it, otherwise your gourami will be lucky to make it though 6 months regardless of the care you give him.

Honey gourami also do well with community fish, although they are harder to find. I find them to be generally healthier and long lived as long as the water quality is well maintained.

I definately would avoid kissing gourami. I haven't had mine long, but I know he's not a very friendly guy. He rules his tank and anything that gets between him and his food is toast.
