I have a 10 gallon tank, fake plants. Right now, there is a single Dwarf Gourami living in it. I was hoping to add a pair of Blue Rams to the tank.

Now, a couple of questions:

1. Is this tank situation ok for them?
2. If I were to get a pair, should it be a male/male pair, or a male/female pair? I don't want fry...
3. Would adding both of them at once be a bad idea? If I do add them both at once, what should I look out for in the water parameters? Higher ammonia?
4. If not, would a single Ram be alright for this tank setup?

Thanks for your help!

I would not go less than a 29 for a pair of rams.

Did you read.....

The larger the tank the happier they will be

?

They may survive in a ten but will not thrive, which is an obligation of the hobbyist. I say a 29 in case you end up with apair that mate. A fish usually requires more space to feel comfortable and have swimming area.

Alright, I may just go with a single Ram then.

No need to be condescending rbishop...yes I did read. I understand that for any fish, the larger the tank the better. The fact of the matter is that I am a college student, and a 10g is the largest I can house at the moment. So I'll go for the single Ram. That's why I asked. Thanks for your help, though.

I wasn't being condescending. Many folks will post or state a link as fact, though they stop at the point where they have read what they agree with and start to spout it as fact without looking at the amplifying remarks and details.

I disagree with Emg that a single ram would be okay in the 10 gal you are limited to. Rams are not a solitary fish in the wild. While not a schooling fish, they like groupings.

Once again, it is more than a question of physical space, you need to take into account all aspects of the fishes needs.

On this same subject--suitability of rams for particular tanks--would two rams fit in my 55g with 5 bronze corys? I don't want my corys hurt, but the rams seem very cute and 48" seems like enough space. It is a heavily planted tank with lots of hiding places and a couple of levels.

You would be more than okay, but if they are male/female and spawn there could be issues.

So the single Ram would be an absolute NO? He wouldn't be happy at all?
