$469,000 for a 24hour on call, live at the office job?

24 hrs x 365 = 8760 potential working hours. Let's guarantee 6 hours sleep, but know that this is never guaranteed.... 6570 likely working hours.

About $70/hour. Before taxes. Still pretty good, but I think airline pilots make more.

If that's the case, George is making FAR more than $70/hour. His billable hours over the last four years have been laughable... he's been on "vacation" more often than any other president than "Silent" Calvin Coolidge.

Hmmmm....Does anyone else here a familiar commercial in the background?

Fridge full of junk food..........$3,000
Your own bowling allery.......$20,000
Private theater..................$20,000

Having the security of the world's economic giant resting on your shoulders.....Priceless.

Sorry, just my opinion, but the perks and the salary do not make it worth being responsible for the US. Not now, not ever. Can you just imagine the stress? The terror? The nightmares? Not to mention the fact that the security isn't just a perk, but a necessity for your safety? That the bowling alley, theather, and Camp are about the only places you can go to goof off without being mobbed by the media? It's not like the president can just decide to go out for a night on the town on a whim. I'm happy being little ol' private citizen me, thank you very much.

Granted, the President takes a lot of crap from everyone... and is often blamed for everything that goes wrong, but as far as stressful decisions? Nah - he has everyone else doing that for him. And I am not picking on Bush, I realize that the dozens of Men and Women who make decisions for the president came along way before Bush... ;)

I was hoping I would get to a post like this somewhere before I got to the bottom. I'd say the president deserves all that far before a musician or athlete.

no question about deserving it, I just want a job where I make $70 an hour, but I want an indoor swimming pool as my recreation instead of a bowling alley :D

I read a previous post and I need to mention, it's not the President that decides everything, or major issues - there's a Congress.

I know the President doesn't make every decision. Does that mean he sleeps peacefully at night? Does that mean he doesn't feel stress? Take a look at almost any previous president prior to his election, and compare it with a picture taken 2 years through his first term. Almost all of them look considerably aged.

Stress is stress. Doesn't matter if you get to control the issues that you worry about--just the gravity and importance of the issues which the President is held accountable for, plus the overwhelming media attention (raise your hand if you've seen the pictures of a presidential colon!) would be amazingly stressful.
