Wow, I mean I knew there were perks but gee

I'd do it for the cash and the interns.. Can you imagine the personal vendettas that could be taken care of by having the Secret Service at your command? Oh yeah, now THAT is my idea of a job perk..

S.S. doesn't really answer to the president (to my knowledge). I could be wrong, but wouldn't you think the president would be under constant surveillance? For God sakes, the man can't even choke on his own pretzel in peace! :p

My point was not about 'looks' or 'stress', but rather the individual elected President is a 'figure-head'.... Congress really makes the decisions.

I don't understand it when some say "..the President did this mess.." etc.....

Sorry if my other post was not clear...

...as if that never happens! :D

The President has plenty of power; It's just that much of it is exhibited through the people he appoints to office.
It depends on other factors.... The Pres just doesn't get to "appoint" his agenda... Which is what it may seem to some people.

Congress ......

It can be boring, but the facts are there... ;)

I'd much rather be the leader of a 'smaller' nation like Canada (weee, get pies thrown at me) or a EU country. Similar perks and prestige, probably a lot less stress. Never in my life would I ever want to be the leader of the United States.

Anyway, IMO, the president in a democratic sense shouldn't be 'all-powerful.' If he was, it wouldn't be a democracy. ;)

Wow, his own private bowling alley, a mid-eatern county "conquered" in the name of democracy, and still we have starving people in america. isn't our country grand?

Exactly. And why do you suppose many American's (and foreigners) think our government is the laughing stock of the universe? We pry ourselves on having a democracy, and of being a "free nation", but many American's realize this is not necessarily the case. It comes with a big price.

Welllllll if Kerry gets elected we will just ask him to donate a couple of million to the cause after all he is worth several million and has 5 mansions scattered around all he would have to do is sell 1 house and he could feed a small nation for a couple of years ;)

If I'm not mistaken (entirely possible), much of the aid we send to foreign nations just gets 'reallocated' by their government. If the government doesn't want help, the people probably won't get it. I think we'd have better luck letting companies outsource to those countries and making them pay relatively generous wages. That would discourage outsourcing AND improve our image.
