So, when I got my back-pay check I bought my son an XBox. Figured I'd get the new 360. Bought him a couple of 'original' games. Thought it might work like the PS2 on that account.

Wrong!

In order to play 'original' XBox games on a 360 you have to download an update from the internet. And not all 'original' games are available yet.

Tried for an hour and a half to download the update for one of his games before giving up.

Any wonder why the Sony PS2 is still #1?

mmmmm..... dreaming of PS3..... not comfortable with blu-ray DVD format ideas though...

well that sucks, hmmm can it play dvd's music cd's, i heard it allows you to burn cd's too is that true?
Possibly, haven't gotten that far.
The PS2 will play cds and dvds, and I have a computer that will burn cds. So the 360s ability to do that doesn't really impress me much.
Remember tho, this was bought for an 11 year old. He just wants to play the games he bought.

ok but honestly do you think its worth the money?

did you buy any of the new games, or just the old ones?
For my son, at this point, we should have bought an
'original' XBox. All of the XBox games he wants to play would work on that.

Backwards compabability. Wow. What a concept.

My updates have run very fast when I've even needed to do them...

PS3...When is it coming out? I read that they were hoping for this fall, but it may not be until next year. And that they aren't even sure what they're gonna charge. That it cost something like $900 dollars to make, so how could they sell it for only 399? That they'd have to take a big loss, like Xbox is.

Not sure how true all of that is, but we are curious about it. Will it play PS1 and PS2 games? And movies?

Sorry for the hi-jack. Since all we have are PS games, we aren't planning on switching over to an Xbox.

As a rule of thumb. You should never buy a new gaming system when it is released. Wait at least a year (sometimes two), all the bugs will get worked out and the price will drop.

But, it is harder to do than say.
