I have a fish-only marine tank (90 gn.), but on my live rock I accidentally got some xenia. This turned out to be very lucky, because it has really flourished, and is beautiful, growing and spreading. Recently I bought a "chocolate chip" starfish (Protoreaster nodosus), which seems to be doing very well. I have read, however, that these starfish will eat most invertebrates, and I notice it spending a lot of time in & near the xenia. The xenia seems fine so far, but will the starfish eventually harm &/or ruin it? Thanks.

I am not sure if a CC star will go after the xenia, or if it just feed off the xenia's waste. Many stars will feed on coral waste if they have the chance. Make sure to supplement the star with algae tabs, krill and silversides. This will reduce the odds of it going after anything that fights back.

As for the xenia--it's great stuff. It actually sucks up nitrates, and can be a pest, it spreads so fast. I love how it looks in our tank. We have 2 or 3 kinds, all pulsing happily.
