After a bit of searching, a LFS was able to aquire some female Dwarf Gouramis for me. I tell you, it's probably not an epic quest, but these girls are hard to find in this area. Nobody wants to stock the females because they look so plain, but I find them rather attractive (in a platonic way of course :D ). The same markings are there, just very hard to make out. Looking forward to this family growing up! Just thought I would share.

Nice one mate, I found the females to succumb slightly more readily to water quality issues, however, seeing as you've got more than one female harrassment shouldn't be that much of an issue, but just FYI (you might know all this already lol) I'd have some salvinia or vallis up the top of the tank to create a couple of upper level refuges.

I second this. The first pair of fish I ever had were a pair of dwarf gourami that turned out to be a male and female, and (I wasn't expecting it) they mated and produced a bunch of fry. Since I wasn't expecting it, as a complete newbie, I watched in horror thinking that one of the fish was trying to kill the other one until I realized what was up. And then a bit later, still unprepared that they would have successfully mated, I got to watch with dismay as they started gobbling up their own fry. By the time I got back from the LFS with a refuge for the fry, it was too late. :(

I've got plenty of driftwood, some java fern that has been growing slowly but steadily for a while, a tall (and fake) corkscrew vallis in the middle, and about 2/3 of the surface is covered with watersprite. So far everyone is getting along great, even the 1 barb is playing nice. But the gouramis are still young, so we'll see how it all develops.
