Well folks, it's official, I'm getting a 5.5G emperor scorpion viv for beside my bed. I'm really excited for this, I've always wanted one.:)

Is a 5.5 gallon big enough for one? Justs seems small for an animal that can get up to like 8 inches =) I would think a 10 gallon would be a minimum like a lot of other things ;P

yeah, sorry to say, but for an adult, 10 gallons will be MUCH better.

True, but any larger size is always better. 6 is the highest I can do at the moment, but it's not too small to the point that it's not a good life for it.

However...they rarely reach 8 inches, and they aren't the same as any other creatures in respect to space. They only want as much as they can eat, drink, and regulate temperature. They don't really need "walking space" or such, as lizards, amphibians, and fish (I'm not saying "they don't need to walk around", but moreover, not the same way as a fish or lizard). 5.5 is the minimum for them, because it's the lowest way to reach all three.

The other thing is, once my friend gets his stuff together, he'll be taking my PacMan, and I'll use his old 8 for the scorpion.:headbang2:

then you aint seen em eat:grinyes:

plus just saying "I have a pet emporer scorpion" is just neat:D
Ohhhhh yeah. Very fun to watch them get a rather large cricket with their claws in a split second.:)

Also, you get what I love about my tarantula as well, which is always seeing it do something that will totally amaze you. I've seen her catch a cricket from halfway up the glass (her species isn't supposed to even be able to climb glass!), she's drank water from her dish while it was still hovering in my hand, and she's built a really cool "cricket trap" which is just a little bit of web in a cool pattern that traps them to her. Plus, holding her is very neat.:)

Just wait till it molts and you wake up to 2 scorpions.
When i kept them i had a black light in the room and the next morning i woke up to 2 glowing scorpion outlines not one. Just a quick comment

I used to have one when I was a youngster, and it really was entertaining watching the scorpion catch its prey. Used to feed it geckos I found outside the house at night.
