Yellow Betta - Rare?

Hi all, new to the forums, but not the hobby!

I personally have never seen a yellow betta outside of a photo. I recently "rescued" a poor lil yellow male betta from PetCetera, with rather chewed off fins (apparently someone put him in with another). Anyway, I was rather excited to see a yellow betta, and bought him regardless of his shredded fins. So, just how hard to find are these yellow bettas? I am wondering if I should take "rare fish responsibility", and find a suitable mate for him...?

I don't know how rare they are, but I have only saw one in my life. By suitable mate do you mean a female to live with him? If so, no. They don't usually work out being kept together except for a short time when breeding.

No, I don't mean to live with, I mean to breed. I've bred them before (years ago), and if yellow ones are rare, then maybe I should try to make more?

The Mighty Queen Pixie is our resident "betta expert" so I'm sure that she will know. I don't think that they are rare, but they do seem to be uncommon. I've never seen one for sell in a pet store, however, I see them for sale on Aquabid all of the time.

Interesting. I have a yellow veil-tail in my 36g. Had no idea they were "rare". He's got a few streaks of blue and red, but not much and he's a very pretty yellow -- more like a creamy color.

I'll get a picture of him later today.

I'd be embarassed to post a photo of mine...he hardly has any fins! I'll see what I can do though - I suck at taking photos of fish! Mine is a much different color of yellow, more of a golden yellow.

Monkey Toes: Thanks for the link, I'll check it out now. :)

Sorry for the crap quality! I told you I suck at taking fish photos! Also he's under an incandescent until the hood on the 10g is fixed...
