Does anyone think it would be too crazy to introduce a Yellow Lab Cichlid into a tank consisting of a small Convict and 2 large Silver Dollars? Is it best to keep African Cichlids and American Cichlids separate or is this a myth? Just curious as I couldn't find any info on the web about this.

different water parameters dont do it every one will tell u the same

interesting....

my tank has a pH of 8.3 (my tap water is 8.5) and my current fish are doing great (I know american/amazon fish prefer lower pH parameters). I used to try and keep it at 6.5 but I ended up having so many dangerous swings of pH it became a disaster and I had some fish loss.

hmmm. I thought Yellow Labs were kinda wimpy from everything I read online. Guess I was wrong.

Is the potential problem the Convict or the Silver dollars? or both? hehe. If I removed someone would it work? Just curious again...

Okay, gotcha. Very interesting, but makes lots of sense.

so the Silver Dollars might be completely fine?

Yeah, I got the Blue Dempsey. Had him for almost a month. He wouldn't eat or do anything. I think he has parasites, but I didn't figure it out in time sadly. Either way, other then being beautiful he was fragile as any fish I've ever seen. Discus could have beaten him up. Anyway. he's dead so I'm moving on.
