I have begun stocking my new 75 gallon marine tank with 2 Oscillarus (clown fish). I will likely add a couple more fish in the next week or 2, and am considering tangs, butterflys, and angels.

Please advise on species that will get along with my clown fish.

Thanks!

Ok, lets just say your tank is fully aged and ready for fish, I would only put one tang per tank since they like to fight. So you will have stay away from similar fish such as butterflies, I have seen them with tangs but I hear they are very touchy together. Tangs like to fight but you may be able to keep a dwarf angel in your tank with your tang. Someone on this board who is more experience with these fish should be able to help you. But always remember this rule of thumb, Fish like tank, if its something very similar to it or of the same species it will bully and fight with. But then again, there is always exceptions to the rules. Fish like to mess with us and confuse us.

Response on yellow tangs

Have you cycled this tank yet? How long? Otherwise cannot advise anything untill it is cycled well. What is your filtration system? Are you using live rock?

I have had my tank up for 1 week now and have been running a double backpack skimmer and fluval 404 canister mechanical/bio/phys filtration (bio and charcoal). I have 140 lbs of live sand/coral.

Me personally I would've started out with a damsel or acclimated Molly before I would attempt anything else. On the other subject I have a yellow Tang and Regal Tang in a 55g together and they've been fine. They basically act like the other doesn't exist. I've watched them closely for this very reason and they've been great. However they were both very small when I added them so that may have something to do with it. I'm going to bump up to a 100-125g tank soon because my Regal Tang, that is currently 2", won't stay small forever. I guess you really need to consider how big these things get and then watch them closely to see any interaction. Tangs are by far the prettiest and most unique of marine fish. IMO that is.;)

My 37g tank has been up and running for about 3 months now and i currently have 2 clowns, 1 yellow tang (I know my tank is too small), 1 powder blue tang, and 1 golden head goby.

I have had problems with my Tang. He was introduced after the 2 clowns. Everything that was put in after him, he chases after. I put in 5 blue legged hermits which i think he ate. A couple of weeks ago i purchased a $17 Fire Shrimp which he picked on and then i think he ate. He actually picked on my smails too but they have a hard shell so he leaves them alone now.

It may be my tank size that makes him aggressive, I not sure.

I had a Lawnmower Blenny (nice little guy) but he didn't make it. I think it was the lack of food source :(

Hope this give you more insite.

My tank is a virtual buffet for my Lawnmower Blennie! That's why I have him. I wish I didn't have the problem. He comes out to dine occasionally, but he spends most of his time peaking out of his little cave in the rocks.

First I would not add anything to your tank in a couple of weeks. It will take much longer to cycle than that. Tangs are definitely not fond of poor water quality. As it is you may have problems with the clowns that you are cycling with. My personal opinion is to wait 2 weeks past your zero point on ammonia and nitrte and see how the clowns have faired. We have a yellow tang and a keyhole angel in our 75gallon. They were added together and are constantly together. They make a pretty picture as the tang is yellow(obviously) and the angel is black with yellow edging on his lower fins. Good luck, but don't rush things.

I have a total of three tangs
1 sailfin
1 yellow
1 blue hippo
They where added individually in that order the yellow actually followed the sailfin around for two days until it felt comfortable with the tank. That seemed to annoy the sailfin a little but he was nice to the yellow. The yellow tang chased the blue hippo for about a day. Now the three get along fine. They often swim together in a small school. And the yellow and sailfin sleep together. The blue hippo likes to sleep in one of my tacky fake plants. I don't know how they're gonna get along when they get older they are very young so I'm hoping that "growing up together" and having 6 foot of tank to swim in will help keep them peaceful.

My Blue Hippo(Regal) sleeps face down next to the heater.:D It's hallarious. His body is completely vertical all night. As soon as the lights kick off he makes a mad dash to that corner and turns nose down.
