yellow water.

no. at some point in the life of driftwood, the tannins will leach out completely. however, if the water in a tank is tea colored as described above, chances are the wood is still leaching.
thats what i meant, new dritwood. sorry if i didnt make that clear :)

If you are fully convinced it is not the driftwood, a high iron content in the water can also make it yellow. Where does your water come from?

This is probably not the case, but I have noticed that if you dont have any background on the tank and the tank is infornt of a wall the color of the wall paint can make the tank water look dingy, expecially under low Kelvin temp lighting.

If you took out the driftwood and placed in water to test to see if it was the driftwood, did you also use warm water? I am not sure but I would think warm 80* water would leach stuff out faster than cold tap water.

What I meant was what is the source of your tap water? River, Lake, well water, etc.

It IS the driftwood I would bet based on what I am currently seeing in one of my tanks!
I added a peice of driftwwod over a month ago, after boiling it through three water changes and it is still releasing enough to slightly tint the water yellow I noticed at water change time...
As ralleysman pointed out...carbon will help remove it.. just change the carbon often enough...so it doesn't stay in the filter and re-release the tannins back into the water.
BTW... the tannins won't realy hurt anything..other than give you yellow water!
