Yes another discus post

Discus are schooling fish so they need a large tank. Nothing less then 45-50 gallons and bigger is always better. I would recommend a school of no less then five. Keep in mind that thier adult size is equal to about the size of a small dinner plate each. Juvie discus need a bare bottom tank because they need frequent feedings throughout the day and a bare bottom tank is just easier to grow them out in with the cleanup in a bare bottom tank. Juvie discus will just waste away in a tank that is planted or even if it just has substrate with a few plants. If you want substrate or a planted tank with your discus, I would recommend sub-adult or adult discus. They can be fed once or twice a day so this kind of aquarium is fine for them. They need temperatures of 82-86 degrees on the fareheight scale consistently. They also thrive on a lot of water changes since they really perfer very clean pristine water in a very seasoned tank. I do water changes five times a week in my discus tank and they are very happy with this schedule.

Some people will tell you that discus are very difficult to keep. This is just not true. If you are willing to do the extra maintenance for a successful discus tank it is not difficult at all and your discus will thrive and be very beautiful. Discus are truly the kings of freshwater fish. When you have a sucessful and thriving discus tank you will be mesmerized by thier beauty and elegance.
