Fishy cycling is slow - you have to remove the bacterial food source as it hits dangerous levels (.25 ppm ammonia/nitrite). It can take 6 weeks to full stabilise a tank, presuming you are not adding fish during the cycle (which you shouldn't do anyway as it will take even longer).

Stick with it - stay on the water changes.

nope..not adding any new fish.

strange thing is...i've only done 2 water changes....i havn't had to because the levels never go up that high....guess i'll just keep testing and wait!
 
Have you checked your tap water?Although it sounds like your cycle is going smoothly and like it should,the midswest,especially Iowa,is notorious for having nitrates in the tap water.You might want to check it periodically to see where it is at compared to what your tank is.
 
You're going to need to treat that tap water with Seachem Prime or a similar water conditioner that detoxifies ammonia.
