Yet another stocking question

I have a new 29g, that will be planted. How would this be?

8 zebra danios
3 platies
3 corys
1 gourami

I was originally wanting a dwarf blue gourami, but in the LFS I saw a beautiful bigger one (opaline? I think it was?). Would that be too big or bother/eat the other fish?

The stocking looks pretty good. I suggest getting no less than 6 cories. In my 29g I have 9 cories, and there is room for more (I've lost a few recently)...so get 6+ of the same type.

An Opaline gourami shouldn't bother the fish you plan on having. I'd make it the "centerpiece" fish. They get about 4-5 inches, but should be fine in a 29g.

You could eventually add to the Danios and/or platies, as you'll have some room to grow....or leave room for a second school.

Sounds like it will be a nice tank! :)
 
Hmm I kind of wanted a bristlenose pleco, maybe 3 cories and a bristlenose eventually? Or do you say six cories because they want the company?
 
the opaline gourami Trichogaster trichopterus, is just a color morph of the blue and three spot gourami. while the one you saw may have been bigger, when they're mature, they're all the same size.
 
Cories tend to be happier in larger groups. I started with 4, and now we have 7 and they're even happier.
 
they work fine in lower numbers, but from what ive heard they play more and are more active in larger groups. (talking about cories)
 
Yeah. They were pretty shy when we only had 4, now that there are 7, they play a lot more and are MUCH more social at large.

Im pretty sure that the OP meant a blue dwarf gourami, a totally different species of fish. dwarf gouramis are much smaller and much more peacful than opaline gouramis; DGs get to around 2½ inches, while opalines and the like can top 6 inches. opaline ghouramis can also be bullies in the tank and harass other fish that are smaller than they are, but dwarf gouramis are peacful
