Pappy, I would belive you if I had been moving the crypts alot, except once they were sitting in the same spot for months, all of a sudden leaf after leaf melted away. Same thing happened again, stopped as soon as I added crushed coral.
Ah, well I suppose that could make a difference. But I was just thinking along the lines that a rapid change in water chemistry could have been the actual cause...
I'd agree. Supersoft water is susceptible to sudden chemistry changes; the crushed coral would be maintaining more stable conditions. Given that the natural habitat of these things is often supersoft and pretty acid, it really can't be that in and of itself.
Been reading the answers to my questions tonight, will check in tomorrow and maybe ask some more questions. Time to think and read before going further.... Thanks for such great information.
