I just cleaned my 125g tank from pesky ramshorn snails as it had become over run with them. Now they are slowly showing up again and I'd like to get a handle on them before they get out of hand once again. If anyone has a group of loaches and some assassin snails for sale, let me know as it would save me money on shipping if I could get them together. Thanks much! Also, my zip is 37807.

Really? I hadn't thought of that. I have one Yo-Yo loach that was given to me (before I knew they were supposed to be in groups) and he doesn't bother my mystery or MTS, but cannot keep up with the ramshorn population.

I had 3 yoyo loaches in a 75 gallon tank and I never really saw them eat a snail. They just scavenged for leftovers for me, but maybe someone else has had success with them?

I keep seven Yoyos plus weather, dojo, and varoius khulies.

I can not keep rams and even mystery snails alive in the same tank.

And my MTS have very few adults.

I have seen my Yoyos very fat and even seen weathe loaches rip into a mystery snail.

Trick is do not over feed loaches an skip feeding days and the snail population will fall off.

Hey I have 1 YoYo, 1 Hillstream Loach, and many Assassin snails...let me know if you are interested. Thanks Henry

I have 14 Angelicus loaches and 3 Clown loaches in a tank. I had a serious MTS problem in that tank until last tax season when I didn't feed them for a week or two. I found 100+ empty shells in the tank. I had thought the MTS were completely out of control when I went to do maintenance on the tank after tax season, but there were hardly any left. I tried establishing a population in the tank again, but the snails just do not live long enough to reproduce.

From what I have heard, the best snail eating loach is the tiger loach, but the yoyos do a good job too. Loaches will eat assassin snails and mystery snails. The reason your yoyo probably has not touched your mystery snail is because the mystery snail has a trap door and isn't as easy to get to as the ramshorn snails that do not have a trap door. Plus, it has probably been well fed on the ramshorn snails. Once all the snails are gone in the tank, you can bet that the mystery snail will be pestered to death, especially if you have a group of loaches in the tank.

The mystery snail and assassin snails will make an expensive snack for the loaches.

I agree. yoyo's are also jumpers you want a lid on the tank I found one of mine
on the floor. even thow my water level was really low !! I have my lid, I am moving things around in the tank and did not have it on yet ... now I too need more yoyo's . :)

and yes mine eat ALL snails.

I guess I'll just try to get a group of loaches then, because I can move the mystery snails into another tank. Thanks for all your advice! What are the best loaches for snail control that will stay relatively small in a 125 planted tank? I also have one 5" yo yo all by himself (didn't know they were supposed to be in a group). He has been in there for about a year.
