It's true. A few days ago I saw a moray eel in the LFS. So, I was getting the Credit Card ready for buy a 75 gl. tank, with stand, hood and stuff, until I realized the price of a bag of marine salt!

The card went back to the wallet, and now I'm convinced to stay in FW tanks.

Also, it was just until I assambled my tank (in the signature) that I realised it can't be moved anywhere. The only weay to take it out f the house would be dissasembled. Or else, takingthe room window down and having 10-15 people around to take it out.
lol... The price of marine salt scared you? I haven't priced it out (I lack the time for SW). I would think the price of the tank setup would do it.

Last night my boyfriend said, "why dont' you start a hobby that gives back?"

I proptly reminded him that in the past 3 months he's spent 5 grand in camera gear and car modifications, and asked him to get a hobby that gives back.

he shut up :) in honesty, he has no room to question my fish with his hobbies.

my ex collected guns- he always told me they were an "investment"
right! same with the cars- i've never seen so many trucks come and go
Guns, unlike cars, don't depreciate much. Unless of course you abuse them. ;)

The car obsession I understand. I have that problem. I'm lucky to keep a car 2 years. In fact I think that's the longest I've held onto one. Much to my wife's displeasure...

There are very few cars out there that appreciate in value. "investing" in cars makes about as much sense as investing your money in slot machines.

Not disagreeing with you at all there. I just happen to like cars. And I like to rotate my stock as much as possible... :)

Well... it's $40 a bag worth 50 gl. of marine water.

Let's see. A 50 gl tank with stand and hood, a non-fancy light fixture, a 350 gph canister filter, a protein skimmer, a temp and hydrometer, may cost around $400. If I build the tank and stand and hood, I can lowerthat to around $200.

Then, I'd do 25% WC weekly, so I'd need a $40 bag of salt every month. That's my current aquarium budget for my 3 FW tanks.

I like cars too, but I dont' see them as an investment. Actually, with all the work I do to them, they are a money pit ifnothing else.

My girlfriend is actually the same as me. We go to the store and see a fish we like and then all of the sudden I'm figuring out where I could put a tank. Most the time I don't do anything though.

I have 3 tanks not set up...hmmm....

Cars are money pits pretty much. I mean, I love my car, and working on it/modding it. In the end though, I spent money and didn't really end up with anything. Sure I MIGHT be able to go faster...but the highest speed limit is still 70 around here. With my fish I can watch them swim and the tanks look nice. Best room "decoration" ever!
