Hello to all. Being a newbie to the fish-keeping genre, I kind of rushed my setup to my tank, but not in the way you might think. Seeings that I didn't have tons of money to put towards a stand, I instead converted a bookshelf and used some handy-man know-how to bulk up the strength. here's where I need help... What can I use to cover the make-shift book shelf so it looks pleasant? Right now I have a drape over it, but it looks like a big Christmas present. :mad2::wall::wall::mad2: What can I do now to make it look good and still access the book shelving space???

All ideas are appreciated:perv:

they sell laminated plywood that has a skin on one side. You could make some doors.

i'll take some pics and post them tomorrow morning. 247Plants, where would you shop for said door items?

What I had through college:

Burlap coated pine shelf boards spaced between concrete blocks. Just wrap shelf boards in burlap, staple or glue burlap edges. Burlap is cheap, comes in colors, is easy enough to work with, and - did I mention - it's cheap.

Simple and cheap? Pick up a spring-tension rod in the curtain section of your local store.

Looks like this:

Buy some fabric in a color you like, several inches wider than your bookcase. Cut the fabric in 2 halves and fold over the top of each to make a 1 inch "hem"... if you aren't handy with a sewing machine, use double-stick tape. ;)

Feed the rod through the openings and you have simple "drapes" to dress up your bookcase... just slide the fabric to one side to access the contents. :)

Of course I don't know what you have to work with, I had a hysterically ugly bookshelf once too. So, I took a old window, wooden frame, and made a door for the front of it. It worked well for about five years then I sold it in a yardsale for $10.
You could also paint the glass so it wouldn't be see through.
Just a suggestion.:)

Any home supply place should have the laminated plywood.

are they on your computer? or hosted on a seperate site (like photobucket)? when you go to reply, hit go advanced, then manage attachments. If the pics are stored on your computer locate them and put them in the top section. If they are hosted elsewhere, put the direct link in the bottom section. Then hit upload. It helps if they are resized to the 600x480 or thereabouts size. Best of luck.
