Is there a way to be able to tell if a zebra danio is pregnant? I know they lay their eggs in the aquarium then the male fertilizes them, however can you see the egg bound zebra danio holding eggs before she drops them??

Tried....being the typical zebra danio's they don't sit still and the pictures will not look like anything but blurs of grey danio. But it looks just like a livebearer fish would with eggs, And it's right at the back area of the abdomen like where they would poo. It looks quite like eggs, but i've never really read of anyone or mentioned that they have seen their females with eggs, they just say that they drop the eggs and then they see babies.

It's swimming around happily, eating looks like everything is fine.

The female would almost always appear very fat which is to say they are most likely full of eggs. This has always been the case with female zebra danios I've kept considering they happen to be the easiest cyprinids to breed.

Well i can't say mine have ever had babies at least that i've seen, if they have they've all been eaten. Have either of you been able to see eggs in the danio though??

Eggs inside the danio's belly? If so, no. I've observed the female danios to become fat and then thinning. This repeats every few days with males chasing them around.:)
