does anyone have any info on clams or zebra mussels? im thinking of pulling a baby out of the river by my house but i would like to find out what i should do to care for it first
In general, clams are not a good idea. They bury themselves in your substrate and die, but you have no idea they're dead 'cause there under the gravel. Then they rot, releasing tons of toxins into the water.
A have to make a pun freddy: according to you, you make keeping a clam sound like a "calamity" ha ha ha
if you have a dirty enough tank, the clam will live. Also, marine phytoplanton, according to me, will support a FW clam because phyto can supposedly live in fresh or salt water. (that is in my theoretical opinion)
http://www.ccs.k12.in.us/chsBS/kons/kons/zebra_mussel_invasion.htm has some info on what and how zebra mussels eat...they would need a huge tank...filter feeders that filter 8.5 litres per day and spawn at unbelieveable rates (which you probably already know if you have them in a nearby river).
