Hey everyone. I am not new to aquariums, but I have never had live plants. I was wondering what types of live plants I could use in a 55 gal with my angels, and also in my 55 gal with my blood parrots? I want to make sure that I don't stress my fish out too much. Also was wondering if anyone has had their fish tear up the plants?
Thanks. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Ann! Can you let us know what type of lighting (wattage) you have over your tank? This is a key component in plant selection.

What type of plants will be determined by the amount of lighting you have over each tank. Most of the standard hoods have barely enough for low light plants and many do not have enough lights at all.

I don't have any personal experience with BPs but many cichlids in general loves to do their own landscaping, which will uproot plants. That said, I've seen a few beautiful aquascapes with cichlids in them.

I have a 55 with 2 angels, tetras, rams and others. Here's what I have in mine. Green hygro hygrophila polysperma, dwarf sag Sagittaria subulata, Cryptocoryne wendtii Cryptocoryne wendtii, Microsword Lilaeopsis brasiliensis, Moneywort Bacopa monnieri, Amazon sword chinodorus bleheri, Brazilian pennywort Hydrocotyle leucocephala, Anacharis Egeria densa, Baby tears Micranthemum umbrosum, Anubias nana Anubias barteri v. 'nana', Myrio - Green Myriophyllum pinnatum, Wisteria Hygrophila difformis, Ludwigia - Broad Ludwigia repens, Corkscrew Vallisneria Vallisneria americana

I've got 130 watts of 6700K PC with CO2 injection and Greg Watson Ferts

Thanx! I've put quite a bit of time and money into it, but it's worth it!:dance2:
