I am having a problem with my 404! Fir some reason it starting leaking about a week ago right by the left latch. I took it apart and cleaned the O-ring and re wet it but it is still leaking. The filter is only about 6 months old. Any idea's? I remember on my old canister the instructions said something about putting grease on the o-ring but in the Fluval instructions it only says to set it before installing it.

I get the same problem sometimes. It can be a pain sometimes. That is why the next time I buy a canister it will be a Filstar XP. Anyways, I found it has something to with the seating of the lid. I just keep reseating the lid until it stops. Maybe someone else might have an idea.

Yes, I would try the "grease." It's actually a silicone-based lubricant (what forum is this again?). My HOT Magnum came with a small tube, and the filter did not stop sucking air into the canister until I used it.

Hey, it can't make things worse...

Well I emailed Fluval and they told me to try Vegtable oil on the o-ring and it still leaks! I am having no luck with this filter after only 5 or 6 months! Man I had a magnum canister for over 5 years and never had a sigle leak!!
