View Full Version : Pool for Pacu??

I am out of options. No one will take the Pacu off me (I didn't buy them, they came with a tank and no one told me until we went to get the tank, and I wasn't about to leave them in a barrel) and I cannot afford the cost of most pond liners. However, I found this pool (http://www.brandsonsale.com/hg-000170.html - the 8 foot x 30 inch one) on ebay for like £60-£70, which I can easily afford when I get paid, and can put it inside, and their existing filters and heaters with a bit of DIY into it. Ideas? Thoughts? Is this a good idea or am I just nuts lol. I don't know what else to do with them, they have outgrown the biggest tank I can put in the house, and have started fighting for space. No zoos, shops, or aquariums will have them. There are 3 pacu by the way.

i dont know the volume, but i think it would work until you can find amore permanent solution.
The only thing i would be careful of is the durability of the material vs pacu.

I'm thinking of putting a plastic chicken mesh frame in it, so the space they have will be 3-4 inches less, but it will be 3-4 inches between pacu and pool liner, so they can't bite etc it. The volume of the pool is 2,300L (apparently, according to those who make it.)

well if its bigger then the tank i guess it would be better..... they live for years and years..... you might want to think about putting them down....

Yeah, I know. I am trying to keep away from putting them down though, but it may come to that..

Good luck with the pond.
I also was going to suggest putting them down. It may be easier to do now then in a couple of years when you are far more attached. There was another thread about a person puttin ghteir very old pacu down due to size issues.
While the pool is miuch bigger (and good for you for trying) I don't think that 30 inches across is nearly enough long term.
How big are the fish and how big of a pond do they need?
Filters are nothing because you can make them out of a 5gal bucket to a 55gal plastic drum (used for food products).
Also what kinds of pumps do you have?

I have flow 4 pumps, and FX5 filters
They need at least a 12 foot pool, but I can only fit an 8 foot pool in really. Will probably be ordering it soon.
