Howdy folks. I have a question. I have my 30 now up and running for about a month and a half. I have a 3.5"-4.5" dsb and about 30 lbs of live rock with another 10 lbs of base rock. There's three fish and probably 10 inverts. I do weekly water changes of 5 gallons and my tapwater test at zero nitrates and my skimmer pulls out a healthy amount of crap. Anyways, my nitrates still read at 30 ppm and I can't get them down. How long does it take for the dsb start kicking? Thanks folks.

At six weeks, your tank is still a baby. It'll take some time for anaerobic conditions to establish themselves, and for a bacterial population to reach a level where you'll see denitrification. You are using fine grade sand right? If so, it'll come. Keep up on the water changes until your DSB kicks in.

Thanks alot for the reply. I figured it'd take awhile. Just wondering if I was doing something wrong. Yeah, it's really fine. Much smaller than sugar. Thanks again.
