Why is my Fluval not pumping any water? It's filled with water and it's just not working. I'm pretty sure that it's been installed correctly, just not filtering at all.

Is the impeller spinning? If it is not then it may be that the impeller is resting in a dead spot. I've noticed that some older AC filters I've owned do this almost every time I try to start them! I've heard that replacing the impeller may fix this but I simply remove the intake tube and with the filter plugged in tap the impeller with a pen or something. jogging the impeller a bit will get it running again. If this is the problem you are having, be sure to check your filter after power outages as it may not start up then either.

It is but it's rattling like some gravel is in it but there's nothing. Also when I tilt the filter on it's side, you can see it pumping water but it's a very slow out take.

Do you or anyone have problems with these filters? It still hasn't run yet.

Try removing the impeller and inspecting it for damage. Clean out the hole that it sits in as well. If the impeller appears damaged, replace it.
