I recently set up my new 55 gal afrian tank and was wondering if after boiling them if it would be alright to put some old shells I have into my african tank? The subtrate is crushed coral and I dont want the PH to be to high but otherwise would it be alright to put a few in as decorations? thanks

Mods if you must then move this to chichlids but I thought being it was a water question it would get more responses here

Shells will be fine. In a soft water tank, they are a big no-no, since they will result in increased hardness and pH, but in your tank, the crushed coral is doing that already, so no worries. There are shell dwelling cichlids that need to have the shells to reproduce and be happy.

Yea, as long as you boil them there will be no problems.
