first off let me say that i have a 50g tank, with an aquaclear 70 and a Marineland Emperor 400 filters in the tank...

first question - are these filters good?

second question - my emperor 400 doesnt really have that powerful of a "water flow" (water coming in and going out of the filter) is this normal?

third question - the aquaclear lid doesnt really stay on....seems like the media inside comes up and pushes the lid up.. i push it down almost everyday...its really annoying....now is this normal?

forth question - is there any other filter suggestions? any recommendations?

the sponge on your ac is dirty so it pushes up.clean the sponge.wait a week and clean your Marine land filter.both are good filters..

well i kinda figured that with the ac...but isnt it not good to clean off the stuff on the sponge??

and the marineland filter has always been like that....even when i first bought it.....

Just dip the sponge in a bucket of your aquarium water and give it a couple of squeezes. Don't "clean" it. I don't know what media other than the sponge you are using--but, if you use the carbon and add the biomax insert you might not have that problem. Helps weight it down. I've used an AC70 for a while with that combo, and don't have any problem.

both highly recommended HOB filters, throw out the emperor filter pack but leave the wheel in, just dont touch the wheel, then get another filter pack. And with the AC, just rinse the sponge in old tank water.

uhh not so much the bio-wheel, cant comment on the AC, im thinking that the filter cartridge in the bio-wheel is clogged up and preventing a fast flow, hence the idea to change it (again i repeat do not change the bio-wheel, only change the filter cartridge.

The newer Aquaclears have little "spikes" on the sides of the basket to stop the sponges from rising. Aquaclears are AWESOME.
