Okay here's the specs:
37 Gallon
Eclipse 3 Hood
20lbs aragonite sand
20lbs live sand
5lbs live rock (to start, I ultimately want 40lbs when I get going)
Tronic 200w Heater
I'm going to wait a while to put any fish in the tank so that I can add more rock and to make sure that I've got everything down. Here's my two questions:
1. What powerhead do you recommend? How many g/ph do I need?
2. Can I put any inverts or snails in right away?

1) Mag drives are highly recommended. Otherwise Aqua Clears and Penguin are nice. For an Eclipse you'll need something that has suction cups if I'm not mistaken. You should have a turnover of around 3-10 X per hour, this changing with what you have. 5 or 6 times will do you just fine. Two small ones are better directed from the back corners to the front middle, but in such a tall tank like an Eclipse you may be happier (as well as your fish) to just get one powerhead. It also depends on if you're running the filter. If you do, run it empty, so nitrates don't rise, but if you do this, then one powerhead will be just fine.
2) It depends on your water specs. Any ammonia and nitrite left from the cycle?

I have MaxiJets. I love 'em. They're the way to go. I think you could get away with one powerhead in the 37. I run just one in my 25 gallon.

I second the maxijet suggestion. What else do you plan on keeping in this tank?

I too would invest in a bigger name brand if you want it to last and plan on maybe utilizing it on a venturi skimmer later on. I found cheap powerheads mysteriously stop working, and if you use them on a venturi skimmer they vibrate and emit loud noise. I use Aquaclear.
I have a 10g reef with no filter or skimmer - just 10lb of LR. I use a maxi-jet (MP400) and a minijet. I've had no problems, but I do disassemble them about once a month and clean in hot tap water.
