Has anyone had any experiences with either of these? I have fallen in love with them, but would like to have info on personal experiences. Thanks! :)

i have a bumble bee. the smaller variety though. i guess there are two different kinds. one gets about 3 inches, the other gets about 8, anyways i have the smaller one in a community tank. hes an awesome looking cat fish thats for sure!. i like him alot! he hides alot though, and is very shy. they love to hide, so you need a bunch of structure for them to feel comfortable, and he generally leaves the other fish alone. i think hes a great fish though, and when he does come out, you feel special. mine seems to like to hide in the same spot though, so once you figure out where they hide, they are a little bit easier to find. i hope this answers your questions :) hes a fun little fish for an aquarium, makes a great discussion, but not a companion fish though :( well mine isnt atleast. good luck :)

I have had a bumble bee catfish for about 3 years now. They are very interesting. As long as you have a good place for them to hide they will get along just fine in your tank. Mine was never aggressive towards others and would only come out every once in a while and when he did he would swim at light speed.

I am actually looking into getting an albino catfish (the pl*co variety), although I don't know if he would get along with my royal pl*co in my 55 gal.

i have both kinds. the one that has micro something in its scientific name is the south american. i think mine is full grown. its head is about as wide as my thumb and its about 2 inches long - orange and brown. it handles some clean up duty in a 20g long. must be taking out some guppy fry too. hides under a rock.

the one with siam in the scientific name is the asian bumble bee.
much longer body- light brown and dark brown about 5 inches with a distinctly forked tail. i've seen a female of this species in a lfs and its body was twice as big around as the one i have, so i figure he's male. quite active when the lights go out. he does some cleanup on a 55g tank.

they are both pretty paranoid. if they do come out during the day and see a human move toward the tank, its back in the hideout at light speed as described above.
i toss just a few shrimp pellets in the tank for them in the evening. they seem to like them more than cichlid pellets.

if i could set up a low light tank in a dark quiet room i'd probably get to observe them much more often.
