View Full Version : fridge, freezer, or both?

It looks like I might add a dormroom sized fridge to my office to store fish food in (the office fridge is turning out to NOT be a popular spot for bloodworms:rolleyes: ).

Right now I only use frozen food in addition to flake. But I could maybe see some easy fresh food like, um, like what? CBW? Is that easy to maintain?

As you can see, I have not figured out what kinds of food I want to keep for my angelfish. Variety is good but I need something easy and clean for an office environment. So this is really a food question I guess. What foods can I keep in the fridge that would be a welcome addition to their diet?

Do I want just a freezer, or a combo of fridge and freezer? Keeping in mind the pathetic size of the freezer section of the combos, and the defrost issues, I am inclined to go just for a freezer and skip any blackworm rinsing etc. that might be encouraged by having a fridge. Thoughts?

I'd go for the freezer unless you have a real hankering for feeding livefoods.

instead of feeding frozen foods try feeding freeze dried foods. I feed freeze dried blod worms to my angelfish(and other fish) and they love it.

You can buy frozen blood worms & brine shrimp (sea monkeys!!!) at the LFS and keep them in the freezer in a container. Or is this what you're doing and you're work-mates are freaking out?

You only feed once a day right? Can you take a frozen chunk in some water sealed in a salsa jar. Bye the time you get to work it'll be un-thawed and ready to serve.

Just a thought.

Sea monkeys are actually a man-made species known to science as Artemia nyos. Most of the brine shrimp available for fish food are A. salina. I am saying this for your benefit, as some Sea Monkey keepers are so fanatical, that they would severely flame you for feeding them to your fish.

Thanks dawg, good info there. I'd hate to be on the 10 most wanted list on some fanatical website :)

As Johnny Carson used to say... "I did not know that."

Hey, no prob...I read it the July? 2002 issue of AFM, and I decided to share...Unlike Haley Joel Osment in "The Sixth Sense," I don't like going around and saying that "I see dead people." :)
