Long story short. I bought 2 GSP's last week..
I'm not sure if this is normal behavior or not... but earlier I noticed that one of the GSP's tail was kind of bent around and you couldn't distinguish that it even had a tail. It was oval shaped, couldn't really swim right, just kind of floated around.. It was really odd, I though it just got down puffing or something but it wasn't any bigger. After a few minutes, the tail popped out and it started swimming normally.

Just a few minutes ago my other GSP did the same thing.. what the H?
Is this normal? If it is, what a weird thing to do.

GSP are odd fish !
mine tends to bend its tail to the side when resting or if something scares him and sometimes the colour of its belly can go a darkish colour.
Soon as they see me, they start swimming around with excitement, tail fully extended and belly goes a pure white.
I would also expect them to "curl up" if water conditions are not right but im sure you know what there water requirement are !
Also check if no bullies about and give them hiding places like caves and interesting things like plants, tunnels and live food.
They love exploring !!

Yes, I guess they kind of are strange. I also recently got a GSP (from Walmart of all places!) and didn't realize that they are for more experienced aquarists. It took a few weeks for his personality to come out, but he's is doing fine. I think they are weird fish also. My guy has a permanently "bent" tail, and it's been like that ever since I first got him. And I have seen his color go lighter at times...very strange.

From what i hear and see, permanently bent tails are fairly common
as long as they seem healthy, nothing to worry about.

Colour does fade on GSP as they get older but 6 years ago i bought 5 of them, 2 are housed in a full marine tank, 1 in a slightly brackish tank and the other 2 mid way to marine.
The more colourful ones are those in the marine tank as well as been bigger in size, so salinity must play a part too.
But that’s just my findings FYI ! :look:

That's great, as long as you don't put them in with the fish in your avatar!

I'm pretty sure that a deepwater fish like that wouldn't fair well at normal pressures. I do have an angler though.
