Ok I have looked around this and many other forums and cant find and recomendations on how much ammo i should initially put in the tank for the cycle. I have read the the ammo you get in stores is extremely concentrated and a half to 3/4 cup will get a 55gal to cycle quickest. If you have cycled fishless and have a 55gal please let me know how your experiane went. I have started to cycle already and with 1.5cups of pure ammo I am only getting a 2.0 with my master fw test kit. please help. I dont wanna overload this tank with ammo and have to drain it and start all over.
i dont know the exact amount but 1.5 cups is seems like way too much. when i cycled my 75 it seems like it was only 6-7 cap fulls (5 ml cap) to get it is 5ppm. here are 2 links that go into detail about the whole process.

i suggest getting a new test kit (or one of these (http://www.petdiscounters.com/aquarium/test_kits/sm_ammonia_alert.html)), and start over following the directions carefully.
Commercial sources of clear ammonia vary so widely in strength that there is no way to correlate volumes of product X with a given ammonia concentration. You should have an ammonia titer in the tank of 3-5ppm and maintain that until nitrites show, then you can cut the starting ammonia titer in half.
