Today after work i bought a shop light fixture that holds two T8 bulbs. The bulbs are 32watt GE daylight bulbs, 6500k. I'm just wondering if this will be ok lighting. I currently just have arachnis and hornwort, it's a 29 gallon tank. I plan on going with some different plants. I'm also using a diy c02 system.

Do I read correctly that it holds two bulbs at 32W each? That means 64W over a 29G which is 2.2WPG.

Now it is a taller tanks and it is NormalOutput lights so it is less wpg and the wpg is not a rule, but more like a suggestion.

So my guestimation is he would be around 1.75 wpg or so.

Good enough for alot of plants and he could easily just suppliment Excel to get good growth. It is on the edge of needing co2, and DIY co2 will be more than enough.

Jim, it depends on what you want to grow :)

My tank is a 38g which I think is the same height as the 29. I have a 75W light - just under 2WPG + yeast-base CO2. I grow low and low-medium light plants (anubias, crypts, java ferna and moss, water sprite, wisteria) and they all do quite well.

If you want more demanding plants then you'll need more light. But you can definitely have a nice planted tank with that light.
 
You'll be able to grow almost any of the more common plants with that amount of light, your choices will be somewhat limited by whether or not you choose to use CO2 and ferts.
