I was directed to petsolutions for plant fertilizers. I looked at other things and find their prices to be low and they carry a lot of things. Have u ever shopped at Petsolutions and if so how do u rank them??? Are they a good place to get fish supplies??
Petsolutions vs. Petsmart.....who is better???

Opinions and experiences are welcome. Thanks:) :D

I have been shopping online for fish stuff for close to two years. Here is what I have found:

Lowest prices are at Big Als- http://www.bigalsonline.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?inCUR=US
Delivery is average timewise and while they have a good assortment, they don't carry it all. When I can't find it at Big Als my next stop is Pet Solutions.

Pricewise PetSolutions and ThatPetPlace- http://www.thatpetplace.com/ are similar and higher than those at Big Als who will sell an item at %5 less than any competitors posted price if Big Als posted orice is higher. Both deliver faster than Big Als and TPP has a huge inventory. Petwarehouse is the most expensive but they also have some items I can't find at the other 3.

All 4 places give good service and I have never had a complaint on that score for any of them.

I've used PetSolutions and service was o.k., though I had a return that went bad. I prefer www.drsfostersmith.com they ship quickly, always seem to have everything in stock, have a simple no BS return policy, and carry a decent assortment of products. I am not sure how they compare price wise, but they have never failed me in two years.

Drs. smith and foster bought out Petwarehouse.com I used them a few tmes when big als didnt have what i wanted. The prices are GOOD. Not as good as big als, but almost as good. The shipping is ALOT faster with Drs.smith and foster.

Bigalsonline is great because I ordered a light bulb from them and it was broken, so they sent a replacement free of charge and I didnt have to send them proof. Big als is GREAT!

drs. foster and Smith didnt buy out petwarehouse...

they changed the name of the site from petwarehouse to www.drsfostersmith.com so nobody confused them with petSwarehouse.

good business decision IMO.

That same thing happened to me with pet solutions and they didn’t make me send the bulb back either, they just sent me a replacement. I like drs foster and smith’s live chat, its nice when you have a question right before you are going to order. ;)

I asked drs foster and smith and this is what they said.

Last winter, Drs. Foster and Smith purchased Pet Warehouse, therefore merging the companies together under the Drs. Foster and Smith name.

SLIP: Sorry to burst your bubble, BUT you are actually INCORRECT. Here is a letter from their website at:

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/general.cfm?gid=45

I KNEW that they were bought out (in 2001)!

Jeremy mentioned this as well.. I didnt read his edited post.

I just read all that mess about petSwarehouse.com last nite and I must say I was rather shocked about the whole situation.

Just imagine how crazy it would be if Microsoft were to sue everyone who ever said anything bad about them on the Internet :D

Slander= just becareful what you say. Even with facts backing you up, you can still get sued and LOSE. In that case, a few poeple settled for sum instead of fighting the case. IN todays world, where lawsuits abound, just be carefull. In Mississippi, the malpractice insurance is so expensive (people want easy money in that state) that doctors are moving out and its getting hard to find a doctor. Seen that on DATELINE!

oh.. i heard wrong. thanks Jeremy. this is my question- have they had drsfostersmith.com since the beginning, or did they start under the www.petwarehouse.com name and recently switch it to drsforstersmith.com?

Dr smith and foster BOUGHT out www.Petwarehouse.com in 2001. That means they were 2 seperate companies....
They wanted to expand their business. They did a good job if you ask me.

Thanks alot. I've compared Petsolutions and Big Al's and have decided to go with the later of the two. I've already sent out for a catalog. Reason why i asked is one, i wanted to pick a reliable store and two, i wanted low prices. Around here the prices of aquarium stuff is expensive. $20 for an Aquaclear 150 at one store and $32 for the same thing at another. I'm about to fix up a 50/55gal 4 foot long tank, and it's gonna cost a good amount to get it fixed up like i planned. It's gonna be great when i get it finished. I'm gonna move my 6-7in common goldfish(Aoi) and my 5-6in Sarasa comet(Ginga) into it. I also want to get a Red-tailed black shark, and 2 weather loaches. How does this sound???? The red-tailed shark is not a big want, so if it won't work, i can pick another fish. Well thanks alot for the replies.:) :D

drsfostersmith.com:
Record created on 11-Jul-1996.

petwarehouse.com:
Record created on 20-Nov-2000.

The domain drsfostersmith.com has been registered considerably longer according to the whois database. So I'd assume they were running under that domain for awhile before buying petwarehouse.com

Sounds like a great plan! red tail should work fine with all those other tank mates! They sure are going to enjoy their new home I bet.....you will too. Good luck! Big als has a special bonus. you earn points..after a certain point..they give you money off the next purchase!!! als double points on tues, wed nights I think. After a while, using double points, you get money back...great deal I think. No one else has the point system... yet..
