I have 2 firefish gobies, had them about 3 weeks. They have been acting great, eating well and typically spend daylight out in the open. They do dart into a cave when fightened.
However, today, one of them is staying in the cave constantly, and only came out for a brief snack at feeding time.
I am worried somthing might be wrong. Any thoughts or advice?
Thanks

Have you checked your water parameters? When was the last water change? Have you noticed if any of the other fish has been picking on them?

Tested everything this morning--all parameters are perfect. Our last water change was this morning--about 10 percent; just like every week. Everyone gets along as far as we can see--nobody seems to be picking on him.

FIREFISH are a very strange fish do the pair get on ok?
i have a firefish & ever since i had a ich/white spot problem 9months ago my firefish has always been shyer than normal............ & under 2months ago i up graded my tank & my firefish is even shyer hiding in his cave all day only out for food & on the odd time i`ve not seen him for 2days but then he appears right as rain soooo unless he has no signs of ich or been bullied etc i would not worry as in my eyes these fish are very shy unless in a Sheol

They are pretty docile fish. Maybe he is more normally out you just aren't around to see it, and possibly he is a little frigthened of you? Any fish could bully a firefish and make it nervous. How much does it eat? They are calm, slow feeders, and with clowns being aggressive eater which I think they are, they could make him uncomfortable.

My two are weird too, definently have personality. I know one of mine hides for whole days if he feels like it. Seems to be just fine, just a bit shy now and then. Then again, I'm a noob.

Good to hear.

I have one firefish and he swims around all day. but hiding is certainly not surprising to me.
