Depending on the height, its probably either a 29 gallon or a 20 gallon long.

Length x Width x Height divided by 231 will give you the gallons.

the heights about 13 inches so it came out 21.65 so id have to say a 20 gallon long....was this a good pickup or what?!hmmmmmmm....now i wonder what i could do with this.........any ideas...what would you guys do?

DO NOT USE SOAP to clean out the tank. Any little bit left behind will kill your fish. Plain water, maybe a little vinegar, elbow grease.

someone earliar posted a message that to find out how many gallons your tank holds you divide it by 231. Will that work it out in US gallons or UK gallons? the dimentions of my tank are 24 inches tall, 24 long and 11 wide. please help

Suppose it depends on your interests... any particular type of fish you want? (cichlids, live bearers, cold water, something active, something really colorful, cobinations of any of those?)

That will give you US gallons. Not sure how to get UK gallons from it. Maybe someone else will know :)

You could do a mini ecosystem in the 20 gal,but i doubt it will be interesting since it will be hard to see the minute organisms, other then that, maybe kuhlies, guppies, bristlenose plecs, otos, endler's livebearers.

Well, if I had a 20g, I'd wanna do a slightly controversial setup:
1 male betta
6 female betta
4 corys
Heavily planted with lots of hiding places.
Just to see if it can be done

IMO,alot of plants,a couple of fishes that are middle dwellers, would be seen less often, from afar,it would look like a tank with plants.

see, im not into the plant thing at all......if there are plants they are going to be fake....also i want like 4 panda cories in there....so other than that fish wise im not picky because i want to experience as many fish as i can in my lifetime......thank you.

Heh, I was gonna use fake plants :)
Another popular option would be 3 or 4 dwarf cichlids, maybe shell-dwellers, 1 male, 4 females. (yeah, I know it's 5, I can add too!)
Or... how about 15 neons and an electic blue crayfish :)
BTW, should edit the subject, the current one doesn't lend itself to being informative.

Hmmm...
Paging a moderator, moderator please report to General Freshwater. :)
Weird... you can delete, but not rename.
Regarding the bettas, I've kept a single male with a group of females before, in a community tank. The females caused each other more problems than the male did, but they didn't do any lasting damage.

A 20 long....hmmm......the 1st thing that pops in my head is pair of Kribs with maybe some Leopard or Zebra Danios up top...or maybe just a school of glass cats or a single elephant nose.

I was just reading up on Lake Tanganyika shell dwellers. They seem like really interesting fish to keep, and you wont need any fussy plants. A 20 long would be great for a small colony of them.

You could breed a pair of kribensis in there. Very cool fish, and breed readily with a cave structure or something. You could also add other fish, as well. Kribs aren't really aggressive cichlids.
Are you SURE you don't want to try live plants? It's addicting ... and your fish would love it.
Maybe your mom would consider getting you some lights and/or a hood for that thing for Christmas (since she's no longer going to get the 10-gal). And a heater. And a filter ...
And if it's been frozen, it would be a good idea to just fill it with water once you get it clean to see if it will hold up for a few days without leaking.
