Discus

1, maybe...2, most likely not.

They are gregarious, and really do best in groups, so you would need a larger tank and a few discus...check out 80gJoe's specs for an idea as to what to do!

There are many breeders that keep their breeding pairs in 20 gallon tanks. General rule of thumb is 10 gallons per adult discus. You could keep 6 juveniles and thin out to a breeding pair when they pair up or you could buy 2 adults for a 20 gallon. Adult discus do fine as a pair, juveniles are best kept in a group. Also the discus should be the only fish in the 20 gallon tank. You could have a lone adult discus in the tank.

If you can afford to buy discus, go ahead and invest in a 55gal tank or larger....55s are pretty cheap, and you could house 4-5 discus in one. You wouldn't regret it.

I have to agree with Slappy*McFish. Four or five Discus would be nice in a 55 gallon.

(Thanks ChilDawg, you know I have Discus! :) )

I have always liked Discus but I'm told they are pretty hard to keep. 80gJoe that is one beautiful tank you have there, feel free to drop it off at my house anytime.:D I wish you continued success with it.

Shimanocono:

I agree with Slappy and Joe. I think a 55 gallon tank would be a great place to start if you can swing it. Good luck with your tank.:)

Thanks dcallen.. I'll probably keep this aquarium.. :)

I also thought they might be too hard to keep, but they really aren't.

I think technically, if your water parameters and care is top notch you can house two adult discus in a 20 gallon.

I am aware of breeders that house pairs in 20 gallons..but this is mostly due to space considerations and not for display purposes.

The key is your water quality..Discus are decidedly more demanding in the water quality dept. than many other fish.

I agree that a 55 gallon is a better bet for display purposes and just to remember that two fully grown discus will look a little crowded in a 20 gallon..they get big!

If you are going to try it just be sure to commit to the water changes and monitoring your water quality..as you must with Discus..

yea didcus need the best water you can give em esp if you got a pair in a 20g.
