As some of you may have read in my other thread, I had thought about moving my fish from my 45 gallon and 55 gallon into a 75 gallon.

Yesterday I did it!

The pic is terrible because I had to use the flash. There's only 30 watts of light over this tank, so it's not so easy to photograph, but the effect is kinda cool. There's another spot behind those lights for more lighting, so I can add more later if I want. I'm stuck with this plastic hood, because the tank is old and was built without a center brace so I can't get a Versa Top for it.

I moved the gravel and heater over from the 55, added another bag I had sitting around, and used the Emperor 280 and Emperor 400 from the 55. I added a Cascade 1000 canister as well. After the Cascade becomes seeded, I'll phase out the Emperors and replace them with 1 or 2 Aquaclear 300s. I can't take the noise from the Emperors anymore!:)

I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, but I'll probably add some more rocks later. I spent about $20 on this setup, which is pretty cool. The tank, stand, and Cascade were all given to me, and everything else is stuff I already had. I bought 2 new bulbs and a stick-on background, and that's it.:)

The stock list is:
2 blood parrots, my first cichlids, bought before I considered the ethics of hybrid fish
1 gold severum (see avatar)
1 firemouth
2 female convicts
1 dwarf green pike cichlid
3 yellowtail botia
1 rainbow shark

I'm watching for aggression, but things are going well so far.

Thanks!

I got the rocks at a garden center a couple of years ago. They were really cheap there compared to the LFS so I got about 70 pounds.

awsome fire mouth, beats mine, and what kind of rock is that? I need some bad, and the local fish store is to high !

I don't know what kind of rock it is, only that it is aquarium safe. The garden center I went to had all different kinds of rocks. I picked up some smooth river rocks for a different tank as well.

awsome fire mouth, beats my all to hell,
Don't feel too bad. I've had most of these fish for much longer than your tank has even been set up! I've had the parrots for about 4 years, the severum for about 3.5 years, and the firemouth and a lot of the other fish for about 3 years. The firemouth is wild caught and was pretty much at adult size when I got it.

Oh, I forgot to add...

Can anyone recommend someplace where I can get a really big piece of driftwood? That's something I'd really like to do when funds permit.

Got any other pics man?

That black background and darker rock and gravel REALLY bring out the color of those fish.

I don't have any other pics just yet, but I'll try to post some later.

Thanks for the compliment! I really like the stick-on background. It's a real pain to put it on, but it just looks so much better than the tape-on kind, and I was feeling too impatient to paint the tank. :)

E-bay has several suppliers of drift wood that deal in large pieces.

Some great looking Firemouth! Don't like the tank though, but please don't kill me for saying that. I'm just not so fond of the decorations, looks too much human-made.

.

I know what you mean. . . I added an Emperor to my 50g to get it seeded for the move to my new 150g. . but the tank is from glasscages and set up for a sump, so the plastic trim is huge and the Emperor sits so high up it is impossible to get rid of the noise. . . .

your new tank looks great.
