Any ideas? I'm still strategizing here, but what would go well in a 70gal, with 13 rainbows? I'd like something 'bigger', with some personality, who won't eat plants/or the rainbows. Ideas?

I'm thinking some of the more drably coloured among the Loaches, so as to leave the Rainbows to be the focal point, and to provide an interesting counterpoint to them.

I'm thinking Yo-yo Loach or Horsefaced Loaches for this purpose.

Bala Sharks get to be about a foot and they are very peaceful

Yeah, I love my Bala's. They aren't very wild, however they do get skittish during water changes, and if they get too stressed out, I hear they will jump, although it has never happened to me.

I'm not sure that Balas are a great choice for a 70 gallon aquarium. They need to be kept in groups, and, as mentioned, attain a large size.

Yes, groups. I have...5 in my 60 Gallon, as well as 2 in the 45 Gallon, although when some of the 5 grow up, they will be placed in the 45.
