are we talking about a pond or fishtank?
depending on the size of the pond, yes. it's possible. however, the turtles will likely attempt to eat the fish. also, red ear sliders will hibernate in the winter when kept outdoors. (not that you know what that word means ;) ).
what kind of fish are we talking about? goldies?

They will eat fish if they can, though. A lot of LPS in Rockford suggest that a goldie or two every now and then will make the turtles happy.

There was a woman on another fish board who had a slider with 2 oscars (I think they were oscars, don't remember) in a fish tank. I would imagine they got along.
There was also a pet store I used to go to that had a s**t load of turtles in a big pond with a few cichlids.
HTH :)

Sliders would have the edge on speed, but Puffers have the sheer jaw strength and teeth you wouldn't believe!

Try not to mix expensive tropicals with water turtles... Turtles will eat fish given the chance.

i have about a 600g pond with 3 adult koi (about 9") about 7 5" goldfish, a couple fullgrown bluegill, 2 footlong channel cats...sorry for the ranting...but i was wondering if the red eared slider would work in this setup. What kind of temperature do they require and would ONE be harmful to this setup??

Welcome to AC, Katydidit! I would recommend against including a Slider in that setup as you seem to have some serious time and energy invested in each of those fish, and I'd hate to see the Slider tear into any of them.

I have seen sliders and painted turtles kept with goldfish and other fish in a pond. A pet shop i frequent has an indoor pond with atleast 5 small turtles. Now if they are small, and i mean under 6 inch shell length, you should be able to keep them with fish. As long as you feed them regularly. The shop feeds theirs fat head minnows. They are beggers and know when it is feeding time. so if your koi are large, i wouldnt worry about smaller turtles eating them. Especially the CATS.. i would be more worried for the turtles. :)

oh i have no worries about the catfish! We get minnows from the canal by my house, and by springtime, we end up with hundreds because they wont stop reproducing! How large do red eared sliders get and what other specifications do they need? any links or personal info would be great on these turtles!
by the way, thanks for the quick response, its nice to have a forum that is fast like this!

have any of you had luck with sliders in an outdoor pond? The temp doesnt get too cold, enough for koi and goldfish to stand, so would it be ok for the slilder? And have your turtles eaten fish that were longer than 5"???
forgot about this tread
thanks for all the help
the turtles are in an 50g outdoor pond with alot of land
if someone can make my pix smaller for me i could post a pic
i was thinking about adding small fish i dont really have room for big fish

from what they tell me, if you do get fish, they are as good as food.
