View Full Version : single severum in 42 u.s. gallon tank
will a single gold severum be able to live to maturity in a 157 liter aquarium with no other fish or is the tank still to small for one severum. i'd like to keep the pair but i havent the room or money to invest in another tank which will need to be 75 gallons +. u no
so can i keep a single severum or is it best to get rid of both and invets in some thing else.

It's really close to the minimum of 45 gallons, so I'd say yes, but add some extra filtration.
my current filtration is a fluval 204 which can filter tanks upto 200 liters so will this be okay or is extra filtration still required, so u say a single severum will be okay is that correct. if so great, but which severum to keep the male measuring 4 inches or the female measuring 2 inches which will look better. may be the female because they dont get as large as the males is that right.

You probably would not need extra filtration with the female there, but testing your water as she grows would not be a bad idea. I'd suggest once a month or so to be sure that she is not over-loading the filtration.

ok after i checked the species profile here on AC it does not say that they need to be in pairs or more , it does say their sociability is pairs, but im my personal experiences i feel that they do best in pairs or more, even tho single specimens can be kept.
