I live in eaton ohio which is the southwestern side of the state and today while walking along a stream with my girlfriend we saw a school of fish that when they turned on their sides looked silver and flat. then after looking harder one of them was pretty big and I could make out what looked like a catfish, the stream was pretty clear but we were up on an embankment so I couldn't get a close look. I did a little research and the closest I came up with is some type of darter. Anyone possibly know what I saw today??

I almost think that you saw a school of Creek Chubs. The females are silver and the males are darker and a bit larger. They are definitely found in SW OH.

Darters generally don't school and are usually to small for someone to just spot, with I suppose an exception for Percina caprodes. Anyways, most darters are very colorful, even when not in breeding coloration, and the closest you're going to get to gray is probably the total translucence found Ammocrypta. Perhaps a school of shad or mooneye. They're decent sized and have a sheen to them.

Well this is just sweet. Next time a troll incites an argument I'm going to look this one up to give me a warm fuzzy. Sorry kids, it is cute though:D I've seen many things here, but this is a new one. Now Kitt can give us the dirty on Optix's tanks...so does he REALLY clean as often as he says? j/k;)

:( did you call me a troll? I don't know what he does with his tanks. I don't really care actually I just wanted to come here to find out what the fish were he saw today that got so curious about. Trying to be a girlfriend that part takes in his interest only to come on an internet forum and be called a troll :(. Guess thats the internet for you.

I don't think he called you a troll. Trolls are people who start threads to get nasty responses...you wouldn't qualify, and neither would Optix.

his tanks are clean I guess?? what is clean to you guys? the water is crystal clear I know that. there is a little white stuff on the back where the filter thing is. I keep telling him to clean it. His fish are nice though, he has a cute oscar that likes me more than him and he has a little grey striped one named clyde that wiggles around for me when I wave both hands really fast to him :) hes such a little cutie, well ok im gonna try to lay back down and go to sleep. I wasn't successful the first time so I figured checking my mail would help and I think it did :p. Oh yeah and checking to see what you guys put on here ;). Night

Lol. I'm just giving you both a hard time. Troll was purely used in sarcasm. No offense intended.
