hey guys,

I'm looking into a single flowerhorn, and growing it out from fry, or juvi. what is everybody's thoughts on tank size minimum for a single fish?

I would say minimum 75g but 90-110 would be better when full grown.

what is more important, footprint or height?

How about not getting a flowerhorn and get a Trimac or Vieja spp. instead?

Length is always more important. It needs the swimming room.

Depends on the fish actually! Flowerhorns get almost just as tall as long. Fish like angels do better in taller tanks.

very true. an angel wil ldo much better in a 29 gallon than in a 30 long because they get so tall. danios and rainbows could carless if it tall or not, because they need room to move.

FHs get pretty big, so even a 75 gallon may be a bit to small, because of their size and because they can be big waste producers.

This get what... 12 inches long right? (no dsl right now... can't google lol)

So... I would say at least a 75. 55 would be too narrow once full grown.

I've seen some hit 15-16"...I think it really depends on what exactly goes into the FH in question

Oh I meant like what species of fish, since FHs are hybrids. But yes diet and water quality are also very important.
