I have recently obtained a Carbo Plus for my 55 gal community tank. I don't have any instructions on what setting to put it on. I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out which setting to use. :D

Thanks

Measure the pH and KH of the tank. Set up the unit and start it up at 20-30% power. Allow to run overnight. Test the pH and KH again. Use the CO2 charts from The Krib or elsewhere to determine the CO2 content by pH suppression. If not sufficient, increase the setting, continue until you have a satisfactory level of CO2,testing at the same point in the day-night cycle each time.

I do not consider them very practical for a 55.

What do you mean by this.

"I think what he means" is that the carbo blocks aren't the best way to go for the money on a 55 gal. The mist that they produce cant be used in a reactor which really makes a big difference and saves CO2. Plus the plates are expensive and I've heard need to be replaced twice a year. Compare that cost to spending $8.00 twice a year to fill a tank or the high levels of CO2 that you can get with DIY and a reactor and the carbo isn't the best but it is probably the easiest. It just depends on what you like, but hey if you've got one it's certainly allot better then nothing at all.

Happy gassing

In my 55s while testing I got >20ppm (20-25ppm) CO2. In operation if operated at that level I'd go through a bock in about 4 months. If I cut back to 15-20 ppm I would get 5-6 months block life.

Ranger nailed it.

It can be done (office tank, pressurized gas bottle not allowed) if you are willing to pay, but it is far from cost-effective.
